Hello,
First we will introduce ourselves: we are Jan and Joke Maas. We live in a small village between the rivers Waal and Maas in Holland. We are collecting pencil sharpeners since 1981. At first only the bronze or copper ones (now they are called metal), but not much later also other sorts. Currently we have them in 10 different sorts (materials).
How did it start :
In 1981 we became an old letterbox filled with all kind of litlle figure's and also some copper things. But there still was a little bit space in that letterbox, so we buyed some items (....yes, sharpeners!!). Soon the letterbox was too small so we bought a second one. Until 1991 the collection was slowly growing (not so quick) and we had +/- 300 / 400 sharpeners. But in that year we got internet and from that time on the sharpeners came from al around the world. Sharpeners from Spain to Russia, and from Australia to Amerika found there way to our collection.
Now we have more than 7500 different sharpeners and they are arranged according to sort in cabinets and letterboxes, and they fill an entire bedroom! The copper sharpeneres are kept behind glass (see the picture's).
And still our collection is growing!!!
On the next pages we show you some things and explain to you a little bitmore about our "madness".
